Europe’s Biggest Onshore Wind Farm Goes Online

windfarm1Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond, has inaugurated Europe’s biggest onshore wind farm called Whitelee Wind Farm. The farm is located in East Renfrewshire, having 140 turbines capable of generating enough energy to power 180,000 homes.

Wednesday will take place the opening of the final array of turbines. Mr Salmond will meet Ignacio Galan, chief executive of Iberdrola, the Spanish company which owns ScottishPower, along with Nick Horler, chief executive of ScottishPower, and Keith Anderson, managing director of ScottishPower Renewables.

Also, the Premier will open a Scottish Gas “energy academy” in Hamilton. The center is part of the company’s effort to double the number of engineers in Scotland to more than 100 each year. There will train specialists in “green technologies“, such as domestic micro-generation or energy-efficient production  in terms of energy.
