A New Turbine Could Generate Four Times More Electricity Than Traditional Wind Turbines

Because wind not only flows through the blades, normally wind turbines lose up to 39.7 percent of potential energy but this week, a small Massachusetts-based start-up FloDesign Wind Turbine win the green competitions with a new type of wind turbine that can generate three to four times more electricity than traditional blade turbines.
The moving blades was covered with a set of stationary blades that propel the wind towards the rotor. The company said that the new turbine has been tested to be effective from up to 20 degrees away because it can automatically align to the wind direction. In comparison with traditional turbines these wind turbines have a design that allows it to capture much more wind energy.
By adding these turbines, many corporate customers or wind farms could triple their efficiency. The price for one such turbine is around $200,000.
