Imara Corporation is a manufacturing, design and research company that has announced a next generation of advanced lithium-ion batteries. These could be used for high power devices such as outdoor power equipment, hybrid vehicles, power tools, grid storage, lawnmowers and speciality applications.
By replacing traditional 2 and 4 stroke engines in the years to come, the batteries will also help reduce CO2 emissions. Starting with 2009, the company will make these batteries for a wide variety of applications. For hybrid electric vehicles, Imara Corp. wants to mass-produce longer life li-ion batteries with discharge rates and higher charge.
With this new technology i hope that hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) batteries which are currently nickel metal to be replaced for a new generation of efficient HEVs.
