hibridPSA Peugeot Citroën has announced plans to launch a new hybrid vehicle that will conveniently do away with the need for a complex system of driveshafts and transaxles. The system is called HYbrid4 and has an electric motor on the back side.  In front, the car is propelled by a diesel engine, to load the vehicle’s batteries and to have a low fuel consumption.

This system will allow to propel the vehicle with one of the two engines, or with both units in parallel. The technology was developed so that it can be implemented on the entire range of the two manufacturers. The first model that will get a HYbrid4 version will be Peugeot 3008, whose prototypes have been caught during tests.

The second model that will get a HYbrid4 version will be Citroen DS5. The two French car producers hope to obtain a 35% decrease of CO2 emissions generated by their models, and a reduction in fuel consumption. The first hybrid model that will use this technology will be launched in 2011.
