offices_boxhf_69New Energy Technologies has developed an ultra-small solar cell that is capable to harvest artificial light which is in abundance in commercial skyscrapers and offices.

New Energy’s solar cells installed in their transparent SolarWindow  generates electric energy by using the visible light in artificial fluorescent lighting typically installed in commercial buildings and offices .

During tests conducted on a 1”x1” substrate, without any natural light from windows, the new solar panels achieved 10-times more output power density than flexible thin-film amorphous-silicon and 8-times more power than copper-indium-selenide.

I guess that for the beginning, the technology application of these ultra-small solar cells will would probably be just in little gadgets like solar iPods, mobile phones and calculators. But i am convinced that these solar panels will have a bright future.
