Vodafone announced that it successfully started generating electricity from wind energy to it’s mobile telephony network.

The wind system allows the company to achieve reductions in CO2 emissions and energy consumption between 15 and 20%. The system is implemented in 32 Vodafone telecommunication bases from Portugal.

Vodafone says that electricity generated by the wind turbine of 3.5 kilowatts is enough to supply a house with four people.

In April, the company announced that it will reduce CO2 emissions by 50% until 2020 through increasing energy efficiency and through developing renewable energy which company uses.

In 2007, Vodafone has caused the suppliers to improve energy efficiency within its network equipment and make a progress of 25%.
